How Dermatologists Get More Patients From Google

    Brenda BenitezBy Brenda Benitez· Updated

Dermatology practices compete on two fronts at once. Someone searching for a suspicious mole is anxious, insurance-minded, and wants the nearest qualified doctor soon. Someone searching for laser resurfacing is comparison shopping, price-aware, and may take weeks to decide. Good dermatologist SEO has to serve both.

Treating those two audiences the same way is the most common and most expensive mistake I see in practice marketing.

If you want help putting this into practice, see my SEO for dermatologists.

Separate medical and cosmetic from the start

Build distinct content tracks. Medical dermatology pages should emphasize credentials, insurance accepted, appointment availability, and clarity about the condition. Cosmetic pages should emphasize results, the experience, recovery time, consultation process, and financing if you offer it.

Keep them separate in your ad accounts too. Mixing them makes both campaigns harder to optimize and buries your cost-per-patient in an average that means nothing.

A page per procedure and per condition

Patients search for the specific thing: acne treatment, mole removal, eczema specialist, Botox, microneedling. A single services page cannot rank for all of it.

Each page should answer what it treats, who it is for, what the appointment involves, how long results take, and what it costs or how pricing works. Real photos of your practice and your team outperform stock imagery on every metric I track.

Local search is the whole game for medical visits

Nobody drives two hours for a skin check. Your Google Business Profile, review volume, and location pages determine whether you appear when someone searches dermatologist near me.

Make sure each physical location has its own profile and its own page, with the specific providers, hours, and directions for that office.

    Google Ads without wasting budget

Cosmetic keywords are expensive and attract researchers. Tight match types, strong negative keyword lists, and location radius limits keep spend on people who can realistically become patients.

Track calls and booked appointments, not form fills. A practice can look successful on paper while the schedule stays half empty.

Follow the advertising rules that apply to healthcare, no unsupported outcome claims, careful handling of any patient data, and no remarketing based on sensitive health categories.

Reviews carry unusual weight in healthcare

Patients read them closely, and search engines weigh them heavily for local ranking. Build a steady, compliant request process and respond to every review without ever discussing patient specifics.
