Personal Injury SEO: How PI Firms Win Cases From Search
Personal injury is one of the most competitive and expensive categories in search. Large firms spend heavily on ads and billboards, and the same few names often dominate the map results. That is why personal injury SEO needs a sharper plan than most legal marketing.
Smaller and mid size PI firms can still win, but not by trying to rank for everything. Personal injury SEO works best when it focuses on specific case types, specific places and a fast, human intake process.
These are marketing observations, not legal advice. Every firm should review its marketing against its state bar advertising rules.
If you want help putting this into practice, see my SEO services for law firms.
1. Focus on case types, not just "personal injury lawyer"
"Personal injury lawyer Houston" is fiercely contested. Searches like "18 wheeler accident lawyer," "rideshare accident attorney" or "dog bite lawyer in Pasadena TX" often have less competition and clearer intent.
Build a dedicated page for each case type you want more of. Explain what to do after that type of accident, what evidence matters, common timelines and how your firm handles these cases. Generic pages rarely win specific searches.
2. Win the map results where accidents happen
Many injury searches include "near me" or a city name, which triggers the local map pack. Your Google Business Profile needs the right primary category, accurate hours, real photos and steady reviews.
Reviews matter more here than in most industries. Ask clients for reviews after a case resolves, following your bar's rules, and respond to every review professionally without revealing case details.
If you serve several cities, support them with genuine location pages that mention local courts, roads and resources, not copies with the city name swapped.
3. Answer the questions victims ask first
Before people call a lawyer, they search questions like "how long do I have to file an injury claim in Texas," "should I talk to the insurance adjuster" or "what is my car accident case worth."
Clear, careful answers build trust and earn links. These pages also feed AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, which increasingly answer these questions directly and cite their sources.
4. Show proof without overpromising
Case results, attorney bios, bar memberships, awards and testimonials all support trust. Present them accurately, with any disclaimers your state requires.
Avoid language that implies guaranteed outcomes. It creates compliance risk and makes your firm sound like every other ad.
5. Make intake fast, because speed decides cases
Injury clients often contact several firms the same day. A missed call or a slow form reply can send a strong case to a competitor.
Track every call and form as a conversion and measure response time. Offer click to call on mobile, a short form, Spanish language options if you serve Spanish speakers, and after hours coverage.
SEO brings the inquiry. Intake turns it into a signed case.
6. Measure signed cases, not traffic
Rankings and visits are early signals. What matters is which pages and searches lead to qualified consultations and signed cases. Connect your call tracking and intake notes to your marketing data so you can see which case type pages actually pay off.
